Subaru Motorsports USA is starting this year’s rally season with a 1-2 finish at Michigan’s Sno*Drift Rally. Both Travis Pastrana and Brandon Semenuk swept all 12 stages. Pastrana taking first and Semenuk securing second. The two dominated the rally so much that the third place driver was more than three minutes behind the two STI race cars.

Sno*Drift is a one day stage-rally event that is sanctioned by the American Rally Association (ARA). According to Subaru the event had varying road condition and to top it off, a state law prohibited the use of studded tires. That didn’t stop Pastrana and co-driver Rhianon Gelsomino to take nine stage wins. During the night stages the conditions grew icy and dangerous both drivers opted for a more cautious approach and took the top podium position without any problems.

It was an especially special stage for Pastrana after a shaky 2020 season and a return to the event where he made his competitive rally debut with Subaru in 2004. Now Pastrana takes the lead in the 2021 ARA championship race.

Next up for the team is the 100 Acre Wood Rally on March 19th-20th. This will be the first of the championship’s eight gravel rounds and also where Brandon Semenuk got his first-ever U.S. win at last year’s Show-Me Rally a reworked route of the traditional 100 Acre Wood.
